Cox Media Buying KLSR-KEVU Eugene, Ore.

The Fox-MNT duopoly has been owned by California Oregon Broadcasting Inc. since 1993.

California Oregon Broadcasting Inc. (COBI) said Thursday that it selling its Eugene, Ore., duopoly of KLSR (Fox) and KEVU-CD (MNT) to Cox Media Group. The purchase price was not disclosed.

COBI has owned KLSR TV since 1993 when the company purchased it from Arctic Slope Regional Corp. Patricia C. “Patsy” Smullin, COBI’s president, said: “It’s been an honor to work with the staff, clients and viewers of KLSR for 28 years. I will very much miss my company being part of this wonderful region and want to thank our Eugene VP and GM Mark Metzger and his staff for decades of wonderful service. Metzger added, “It’s been a privilege to work with the dedicated team at COBI and at these great stations.”

Dan York, president and CEO of CMG said: “We look forward to welcoming the impressive teams at KLSR and KEVU into the CMG family. We are honored to build on the legacy of COBI and Patsy Smullin and continue these stations’ strong commitment to serving the Eugene community and the Pacific Northwest.”

Closing of the transaction is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions and is expected to occur during the next few months. Kalil & Co. was the broker and assisted in negotiations for this transaction.

Established in 1933, COBI also owns Oregon stations KOBI Medford, KOTI Springfield-Corvallis; and KEVU-KLSR Eugene.
