Julie Zoumbaris Named VP-GM Of WJET Erie

The general management, sales and marketing executive with more than 30 years of local broadcasting experience to lead Nexstar’s ABC affiliate in Northwest Pennsylvania.

Nexstar Broadcasting today appointed Julie Zoumbaris vice president and general manager of its broadcast and digital operations in Erie, Pa. (DMA 152), overseeing ABC affiliate WJET, www.yourerie.com and related mobile and social media channels. In addition, she will also oversee Nexstar’s relationship with Mission Broadcasting’s WFXP (Fox) under a grandfathered time brokerage agreement. She assumes her new responsibilities immediately and report to Theresa Underwood, Nexstar Broadcasting SVP and regional manager.

Zoumbaris brings more than 30 years of broadcast management leadership, sales and marketing experience to her new role. According to the station, she has “consistently demonstrated the ability to grow revenue and profitability by identifying and cultivating accretive non-traditional revenue streams through a variety of innovative cross-platform marketing offerings and sponsorship opportunities for local and national advertisers.”

In 2018, she was named VP-GM of WNEM Flint-Saginaw-Bay City, Mich. Zoumbaris started her career at WNEM as an account executive in 1988 and rose through the sales department to become WNEM general sales manager in 1999.

Prior to leading the operations at WNEM, Zoumbaris held a variety of sales and marketing roles of increasing responsibility, serving as director of sales for WRTV Indianapolis from 2014 to 2018. Previous to WRTV, she held sales management roles at WISH-WNDY Indianapolis, where she launched Indy Style, a local lifestyle program, which generated more than $1 million in sales revenue in its first year.

Zoumbaris received her bachelor’s degree in communications from Miami University in Ohio.
