Melody Smalls Named HR EVP At Allen Media Group

Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group has promoted Melody Smalls to the new position of executive vice president of global human resources. Smalls previously was chief human resources and compliance officer and vice president/head of human resources at The Weather Channel/Weather Group since 2016.

In her new position, Smalls will now oversee human resources for all Allen Media Group divisions: Entertainment Studios, Entertainment Studios Networks (including The Weather Channel/Weather Group), Allen Media Broadcasting, Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures, Freestyle Digital Media, Local Now, and The Grio.

She will continue to be based at The Weather Channel/Weather Group headquarters in Atlanta.

Prior to her four years at The Weather Channel/Weather Group, Small held various human resources executive positions at several major corporations including Chase Manhattan Bank, JP Morgan, First Chicago Trust Co., Viacom/MTV Networks and Turner Broadcasting. In 2016, Smalls was listed among the Most Powerful and Influential Women by the National Diversity Council and was named one of the Top 100 Blacks in Corporate America by Savoy Magazine in 2018.

Smalls earned her undergraduate degree in human resources management and marketing from Temple University, and her master’s degree in organizational psychology from Columbia University.
