Michelle Harper Named WHBQ Memphis GM

Cox promotes her from VP of corporate sales to lead its Fox affiliate in Memphis.

Cox Media Group on Monday promoted Michelle Harper, vice president of corporate sales, to vice president and general manager of its Fox affiliate WHBQ Memphis (DMA 51) , effective immediately. In her new role, Harper will provide strategic leadership and oversight for all station departments and functions, including news, sales, marketing, production, programming, community affairs and more.

“Michelle is a highly-experienced industry leader with a demonstrated history of delivering top results and developing great talent. Her background and strategic vision make her the perfect fit to lead this station and continue delivering the best news and entertainment in Memphis,” says Jane Williams, EVP for Cox Media Group.

A 34-year broadcast veteran, Harper’s experience in the media industry includes sales and leadership roles with ABC Disney, Sinclair and Capitol Broadcasting.  Following a two-year stint as an account executive at WSOC Charlotte, N.C., in 1993, Michelle returned to CMG as a general sales manager in Charlotte in 2011.

She was promoted to vice president of sales in 2015, where she had direct oversight of the corporate TV sales function and provided valuable support to the sales teams across the company’s 14 TV stations.
