Nexstar Names Susan Tully Local Content SVP

The former NBC Owned Television Stations executive will oversee the company’s television and digital media local content initiatives and advancing the company’s multi-platform approach for its local news programming and content.

Nexstar Media Group today appointed Susan Tully senior vice president of local content development, a newly created position.

The company said the appointment “reflects Nexstar’s expanding scale and strategy to appoint accomplished broadcast and digital media leaders to oversee the development of its innovative multi-platform local news and community-focused content on a group-wide, regional and local basis, while strengthening its service to viewers, clients, advertisers and brands.”

The appointment is effective immediately and Tully will report to Blake Russell, executive vice president, station operations and content development of Nexstar Media Group.

In her new role, Tully will oversee the corporate content development team and will be responsible for managing the development and execution of the company’s strategic local content and viewer engagement initiatives across its broadcast and digital operations in 100 U.S. markets.

She will also be responsible for advancing the company’s multi-platform approach for its local news programming and content with a strong emphasis on “digital first,” as well as initiatives focused on brand development, social media engagement, ratings leadership and excellence in viewer and client experience and service.

Tully will work across the Nexstar organization to develop local programming and content strategies, refine production standards and best practices, develop creative collaborations and content partnerships, and establish corporate and regional business objectives.

Susan Tully brings more than 30 years of experience to her new role, with expertise in local news programming and production, digital and social media integration, content monetization, strategic planning and brand positioning across multiple media platforms.

Prior to joining Nexstar, Tully was with NBC Owned Television Stations for 28 years where she most recently was president-GM of WVIT-WRDM Hartford, Conn. Prior to that, Tully was VP-news director of KXAS Dallas.

Earlier in her career at NBC, she was the assistant news director at WCAU Philadelphia and managing editor of KNSD San Diego. Prior to NBC, she served in news production and reporting roles in various Texas markets.

Tully obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts in radio, television and film from Sam Houston State University in 1981. She recently served on the Connecticut Broadcasters Association board of directors.
