Rhonda LaVelle Named KAAL Rochester GM

The former news director of WXYZ-WMYD Detroit, Rhonda Lavelle is tapped by Hubbard Television to lead its Minnesota ABC affiliate.

Hubbard Television Group today hired Rhonda LaVelle as the new general manager of its ABC affiliate KAAL Rochester, Minn. She succeeds David Harbert who announced his retirement earlier this summer after 15 years with the station. LaVelle will begin her duties on Aug. 30.

Lavelle comes to KAAL from WXYZ-WMYD Detroit, where she has been news director since 2016. Prior to WXYZ-WMYD, LaVelle was news director at KPRC Houston and spent 16 years as an executive producer-producer at WDIV Detroit.

LaVelle is a graduate of Central Michigan University and has put her leadership skills to work on various boards including as a member of the Radio Television Digital News Association, as an ABC Affiliate News Director Advisory Board Member, The Carole Kneeland Project for Responsible Journalism and the NATAS Michigan Board of Governors as vice president.
