The holidays for those who work and watch Action News on WPVI in Philadelphia are a little less bright due to the crash of their iconic helicopter, Chopper 6, which killed the pilot and a photographer on Tuesday. So when the station sent me this compilation of Happy Holidays promos yesterday, I felt I had to share them.

Over the years of sharing local TV stations Happy Holidays promos, I’ve been amazed at the creativity they display to say the same thing: Happy Holidays. Here are some final promos for 2023 and a few of my favorites from years gone by.

A 32-year veteran of ESPN, Krulewitz will assume his new role as senior VP of communications Dec. 31, and will jointly report to ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro and Walt Disney Co. chief communications officer Kristina Schake. He succeeds Chris LaPlaca, who is retiring at the end of the year after 43 years with ESPN, making him the longest-tenured behind the scenes employee in the channel’s history.

Women’s concerns are news, and KOKI Tulsa is leaning into that. “What matters to women belongs on local TV news” says Michelle Linn, KOKI anchor and reporter.

New jobs posted to TVNewsCheck’s Media Job Center include openings for a general manager, creative services director, a news anchor/reporter, nightside news reporter, video technical support coordinator, investigative reporter, integrated digital specialist and local sales manager.

The new office will develop future growth strategies and oversee day-to-day operations and comprises (l-r) Matt Biscuiti, Kevin Broderick and Katie Fuchs, all managing directors.

Dan Berger, Amblin‘s EVP of marketing and communications, is heading to Amazon as its VP of global media and entertainment communications. He will start in the New Year. Berger will oversee communications for both Mike Hopkins’ Prime Video team and Steve Boom’s games and music division at Amazon. That latter sector encompasses Wonder, Audible, Twitch and Amazon Music.

The veteran executive will oversee all internal and external communications across the network’s programming.

Innovid’s Dan Mouradian: “While conversations around attention metrics might grab your (ahem) attention, whether or not a consumer has ‘paid attention’ to your ad does not define your campaign’s effectiveness. What’s more, in an environment that has seen significant investment such metrics shouldn’t be your main focus when measuring performance in connected TV.”

WWL in New Orleans used its 65^th anniversary to take stock of itself. “In this business, at certain points, you have to make certain that you are still hitting the mark that needs to be hit,” says Tod Smith, WWL’s general manager.

The company has hired Google exec Rachel Berk as SVP, distribution, platform partnerships. In the newly created role, Berk will manage partnerships for Fox brands including Tubi across connected TV services. Reporting to BJ Elias, EVP of distribution, advanced services, Berk will lead the platform distribution team, responsible for the domestic and international distribution of connected TV services from Fox brands including Tubi, Fox Sports, Fox Local, Fox News and Fox Nation across platforms including Amazon, Roku and Samsung.

Former Apple and AMC PR exec Bernadette Simpao has joined NBCUniversal‘s Media Group as SVP of strategic communications, where she will have a specific focus on streamer Peacock. Simpao, who is based in New York, will report to Allison Rawlings, NBCU Media Group EVP of communications.
