ONE Media Promoting ATSC 3.0’s Role In 5G

Sinclair joint venture ONE Media is pleading its case with the FCC to make sure ATSC 3.0 next-gen TV standards are considered while making plans for 5G networks. According to an FCC filing, Mark Aitken, president of ONE Media, recently met with Commissioner Michael O’Rielly and other FCC officials to discuss ATSC 3.0’s ability to deliver data services outside of television.

NAB To FCC: Don’t Jeopardize C-Band

NAB has called on the FCC to recognize the important role C-band plays in content delivery for radio and television stations, MVPDs and OTT operators, to be judicious in the way it makes decisions about reallocating part of the band for wireless use and not to take steps that will degrade C-band satellite service by allowing shared use in the non-reallocated part of the band.

IBM Buying Red Hat In $34 Billion Deal

IBM and Raleigh, N.C.-based open-source softward firm Red Hat said in a joint statement that IBM would buy all Red Hat common shares at $190 apiece — 63% above Red Hat’s closing price Friday. The two companies said the deal, approved by their respective boards, is subject to Red Hat shareholder and regulatory approval and should be completed in the latter half of 2019.
