Andrew Ramsammy To Lead Content, Collaboration For LMA

Andrew Ramsammy

Andrew Ramsammy, an award-winning executive with a background in radio, TV, digital, podcasting, theater and corporate communications, will become chief content and collaboration officer for Local Media Association effective Feb. 22.

Ramsammy will guide two LMA and Local Media Foundation collaborative programs to start: Word in Black, in coordination with Nick Charles, its managing director; and Amplify Ohio, a new, regional collaborative of publications serving LGBTQ+ and communities of color. Ramsammy also will oversee The Fund for Local Journalism, an LMF program to fund local investigative reporting projects; LMA/LMF content strategies; and initiatives toward diversity, equity and inclusion. And he will contribute to other LMA/LMF programs including the Lab for Journalism Funding, other news collaboratives, and industry events.

“There is no more pressing cause than figuring the future of the local news ecosystem,” Ramsammy said. “And when you pair the intersectional crises of the pandemic, climate change, misinformation, and social inequities, powering through these disruptions will require collaborative thinking. I’m proud to be joining LMA at this moment when the need for on-the-ground journalism couldn’t be clearer.”

Ramsammy’s efforts in public media have resulted in more than $5.5 million in sponsorship revenue. Before joining LMA, he served as director of digital content for the Global Sport Institute at Arizona State University; director of audience strategy for Arizona PBS; executive director of UnitedPublic Strategies; and director of content projects and initiatives at Public Radio International.

“Andrew couldn’t be a more perfect fit for this newly-created position,” said Nancy Lane, LMA chief executive officer. “He brings expertise in areas that will make us better including content, audience development, fundraising, public media and more.”
