CBS Launches CBSN Boston

It marks the newest expansion of major market local news streaming services from CBS and features local news content produced by WBZ-TV.

CBS Television Stations and CBS Interactive today launched CBSN Boston, the third of CBS’s 13 local direct-to-consumer streaming news services in major markets across the country.

CBSN Boston features 24/7 anchored programming, coverage of live breaking news events in the region, as well as an extensive library of local news content that will be available for on-demand viewing.

CBS became the first major media company to launch local OTT news services when CBSN New York debuted in December 2018 and CBSN Los Angeles went live in June 2019. Following today’s launch of CBSN Boston, CBSN San Francisco Bay Area is scheduled to make its debut during the fourth quarter of this year.

By early 2020, CBS plans to launch CBSN Local services in the nine remaining markets where the Company has a local television news organization, including Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Philadelphia, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Denver, Miami, Sacramento, Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

CBSN Boston’s daily lineup includes live streams of WBZ-TV’s regularly scheduled newscasts and additional weekday one-hour newscasts at 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. that are produced exclusively for the platform. CBSN Boston will also include an 8 p.m. newscast that will be simulcast by WBZ-TV’s sister station WSBK.

“The early success of CBSN New York and CBSN Los Angeles continues to exceed our expectations,” said Peter Dunn, president, CBS Television Stations. “We are excited to meet the rising demand for our high-quality local news content on streaming services by launching CBSN Boston today, with the San Francisco Bay Area coming next and the rest of our markets debuting by early next year, ahead of the 2020 political primaries and elections.”

“The combined resources of CBS Television Stations and CBS Interactive are placing our CBSN Local services at the forefront of addressing consumers’ interest in receiving local, relevant and useful information on all platforms,” said Adam Wiener, EVP-GM of CBS Local Digital Media. “With today’s launch in Boston we continue moving forward with an accelerated plan to launch CBSN Local services in all of our local news markets.”

“Everyone at CBS Boston is excited to be part of today’s launch of CBSN Boston,” said Mark Lund, President and General Manager, WBZ and WSBK. “Our award-winning news department looks forward to providing comprehensive coverage of local stories to an even bigger audience thanks to this tremendous new distribution platform.”

“CBSN Boston represents our sustained commitment to local news reporting and is the next step in achieving our goal of launching 13 local streaming platforms by early 2020,” said Christy Tanner, EVP-GM of CBS News Digital. “Our unmatched reach ensures that our viewers in all pockets of the country are getting the objective news and information they need at the local and national level during this critical campaign season.”

CBSN Boston is available through CBSN, on and on the CBS News apps for mobile and connected TV devices. In addition, the service is available through and the CBS Local mobile app.

CBSN Local services are ad-supported. They complement CBS’s other streaming services, CBSN, CBS Sports HQ and ET Live, and will ultimately be included as live channels in CBS All Access in their respective markets.
