Gray, Cox, Adopt Arc Publishing Platform

With these additions, Arc greatly expands its work in the broadcast industry, powering digital experiences and content creation for more than 200 broadcast stations in the U.S and Europe.

The Washington Post’s Arc Publishing said today it will license technology to Gray Television, which has stations and digital properties in 93 television markets, Cox Media Group, which has 71 stations and digital properties in 16 markets, and Oregon Public Broadcasting, the flagship public radio and TV source for the Pacific Northwest.

With these additions, including two of the largest broadcasting companies in the United States, Arc greatly expands its work in the broadcast industry, powering digital experiences and content creation for more than 200 broadcast stations in the U.S and Europe.

“As we grow in the broadcast space, we are investing in building tools and capabilities that better connect existing on-air operations with broadcasters’ digital publishing systems, giving producers and correspondents a more efficient workflow that makes it possible to seamlessly leverage broadcast content for digital distribution,” said Scot Gillespie, chief technology officer at The Washington Post. “Arc’s advanced multi-site capabilities coupled with an industry-leading digital publishing stack give broadcasters a first-of-its-kind solution that greatly accelerates their ability to publish and distribute video content across platforms to reach a wider audience.”

Gray, Cox Media Group and OPB will use Arc’s full suite of editorial tools, including its advanced video capabilities, and its infrastructure powered by a rendering engine.

Arc is deeply integrated with Amazon Web Services. This collaboration, which includes AWS Media Services for video asset management, aids broadcasters’ day-to-day work like giving them the ability to set up live video channels in minutes or to clip and edit live and on-demand video in real-time for immediate distribution.

As Arc’s reach with broadcasters has grown, it has introduced a variety of enhanced digital capabilities designed specifically for broadcasters, including the ability to add graphics on top of live video, to auto-clip content for use in different stories, and dynamically insert ads into digital video streams.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

For multinational broadcasters, Arc will offer digital rights management and the ability to target content to publish in specific time zones. Newsrooms will also have access to Broadcast, Arc’s new live video app that allows journalists to stream high-quality live video to multiple sites and social platforms simultaneously. Broadcast, which debuted in July, was developed in collaboration with Graham Media Group, which is in the process of migrating to the full Arc platform.
