Univision Names Streaming Leadership Team

The appointments come as the Spanish-language service prepares to launch a two-tier streaming service upon the close of the Televisa-Univision merger.

Univision Holdings today appointed key leaders to its streaming leadership team, following the recent announcement of a comprehensive global streaming service that will feature both free ad-supported and premium subscription-based offerings, to launch in the U.S. and Latin America in 2022.

The company said the new service will encompass “the largest offering of originally produced Spanish-language content globally, strategically positioning the company as it continues its transformation and nears the close of the Televisa-Univision transaction expected later this year.”

The appointments:

Augusto Rovegno is senior vice president, acquisitions and SVOD programming. In this capacity, he will be responsible for sourcing and acquiring tentpole content for both AVOD and SVOD tiers of Univision’s recently announced global streaming service. He will also be responsible for developing original films, curating and programming for the SVOD tier. Rovegno, who previously served in various roles at Netflix leading the original film development as well as the licensing and co-production of Spanish-language films and TV series, will report to Rodrigo Mazon, EVP-GM, SVOD streaming.

Cameron Carr has been appointed executive vice president, data and insights, streaming and Mariela Stescobich joins as senior vice president, marketing, user growth and retention for AVOD. Carr joins from NerdWallet, where he was VP, data science & analytics. He brings extensive data science, analytics and business intelligence expertise from top companies including Facebook, PlayStation, Netflix and Google. Carr will oversee the Data Analytics functions for all Univision Streaming including AVOD and SVOD and all other digital platforms. Stescobich will be tasked with driving customer acquisition and retention for PrendeTV including the future global AVOD tier as well as other ad-supported digital tiers. Joining from Hulu and Fox, she will leverage her streaming and media expertise to grow Univision’s ad-supported digital customer base. Both Carr and Stescobich will report to Rafael Urbina, EVP-GM, AVOD streaming.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Daniel Sanders joins Univision as senior vice president, engineering, streaming. He will oversee the development of streaming technology platforms and services. During his career in digital media he has designed, built and operated multiple high-scale media platforms and led innovative engineering teams, including for Sony’s Crackle, Verizon’s Uplynk and ViacomCBS’s PlutoTV. He will report to Michael Cerda, executive vice president, product & engineering, streaming.

The newly appointed executives will join Gazzolo’s leadership team in August.
