Bahakel Communications, headquartered in Charlotte, is looking for a Full-Time Assistant Chief Engineer.

Responsibilities include project management, installation, maintenance and support of IT and broadcast equipment in a multichannel hubbing environment supporting multiple stations in multiple states.

A minimum of 10 years experience in broadcast engineering and proficiency with networking of Ip video and audio is required. Familiarity with TSoIP and HLS streaming equipment is a plus.

Must be a team player and available for on-call support as needed. Must be able to lift and move equipment. Moderate travel to other group locations may be required.

Job Summary:

The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance and operation of all IT and broadcast-related equipment in a multichannel hubbing environment.

This position supports multiple stations in multiple states.

This person also provides technical support, ensuring the quality production and transmission of both audio and video.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees various aspects of projects, staffing (including vendor coordination), and scheduling of projects.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain broadcast equipment including performing regular maintenance on all broadcast equipment as well as preventative maintenance.
  • Collaborates with other staff to create a strategic action plan and cost estimates of materials, time, labor, and other resources required to complete projects.
  • Quickly troubleshoot and diagnose technical issues
  • Find solutions and complete repairs to IT and broadcast equipment
  • Recommend enhancements by staying up to date on changing technologies and providing the company or studio with recommendations for equipment updates, enhancements and modifications, and then performing them. Make suggestions for new technology and equipment when necessary.
  • Support multiple stations in multiple states.
  • Facilitates and contributes to the development of project plans and designs.
  • Assesses the competence, capabilities, resources, and financial status of vendors.
  • Collaborates with operations staff to change plans if problems arise.
  • Ensures compliance with codes, guidelines, best practices, and policies.
  • Collaborates with the operations department to identify and troubleshoot problems.
  • Collaborates with other engineers and staff on issue solutions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency with networking of IP video and audio is required.
  • Familiarity with TSoIP and HLS streaming equipment is a plus.
  • Calm under pressure and able to shift work priorities quickly.
  • Recall extensive technical knowledge quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education and Experience:

  • 10 years experience in broadcast engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in related engineering discipline required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to travel to other station locations in other states.
