Alex Finnie Joins WPLG News As Weekend Anchor

Berkshire Hathaway’s ABC affiliate WPLG Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (DMA 16), has hired Alex Finnie as co-anchor of the station’s weekend evening newscasts. She joins Andrew Perez on the anchor desk for the Saturday and Sunday 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts.

Finnie, who joined the station in May 2018, was named interim weekend evening anchor in 2019.

“We are Local 10, and when we can find someone like Alex with the talent, skills and the local roots, it’s a win for the station and the community,” said WPLG President-CEO Bert Medina.

Finnie grew up in Miami Shores. She attended The Cushman School and later graduated from New World School of the Arts in Miami.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. John’s University in New York. After graduating from college, Finnie began her journalism career as a newsroom assistant in New York and also worked on-air in Pennsylvania and Alabama before returning to Miami.
