Anchor Changes At WRIC Richmond

Nexstar-owned ABC affiliate WRIC Richmond, Va., today announced the departure of evening news anchor Juan Conde. He joined the team in 1999.

“Anchoring at 8News has been the highlight of my career in broadcasting,” Conde said. “I’m eternally grateful for the support and trust of our 8News viewers and WRIC management. I’m excited to see a new team take 8News to new heights.”

Larry Cottrill, WRIC vice president and general manager, said: “Juan is the consummate news professional, and it has been my good pleasure to work with him since I arrived in 2017. In conversations with viewers, they describe Juan with words like ‘trust’ and ‘respect’ and if you have had the chance to see him emcee any event like I have many times, you would understand why they say he is ‘fun’ and ‘personable.’ I know him as all of those and much more. We wish him well and he always will be part of our WRIC family.”

His last day at WRIC will be Tuesday, Sept. 14.

Eric Philips will take his seat at the anchor desk on Sept. 14 alongside anchor Deanna Allbrittin.

Philips was most recently the White House correspondent for Christian Broadcasting Network, and before that anchored and reported at WWBT Richmond, Va. He was a CNN correspondent for five years and has covered local news in Atlanta, Norfolk, Charlotte, and Maryland.
