Chris Gloninger Tapped As KCCI Chief Meteorologist
Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Chris Gloninger will lead Hearst-owned CBS affiliate KCCI Des Moines, Iowa’s Storm Team 8 weather team. He will make his on-air debut as chief meteorologist on July 6.
Gloninger has broad experience forecasting during snowstorms, hurricanes, and severe weather events. His career has stretched from the Midwest, at Hearst’s WISN Milwaukee to the East Coast at WBTS Boston. He also serves on the American Meteorological Society’s certification board, where he evaluates weather forecasters from across the country.
“We are thrilled to welcome someone of Chris’ depth who also has Midwest experience,” said KCCI President and General Manager Brian Sather. “His leadership of our weather team will ensure that viewers will have the accuracy they expect from Storm Team 8.”
After graduating from Plymouth State University, Gloninger began his career at WHEC Rochester, N.Y. He moved to several more stations before joining WISN in 2013; he was honored there with a Regional Emmy Award for Best Newscast in 2015. He went on to WBTS in 2016, where he was awarded two more Regional Emmy Awards for his environmental and feature reporting.
In 2018, he earned a Master of Science in emergency management from Millersville University of Pennsylvania.
