Christina Romano Joins ‘Matter Of Fact With Soledad O’Brien’ As Associate Program Producer

Christina Romano, a Peabody Award-winning television news producer who has worked for PBS, CNN and Yahoo News, among other outlets, has joined the leadership team at Hearst’s Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien in the new role of associate program producer.

“At Matter of Fact we are not everyday storytellers, and Christina’s is not an everyday story,” said Emerson Coleman, senior vice president, programming at Hearst Television, who is the show’s executive in charge of production. “She brings a rare variety of global assignments and news-making interviews to this new role. As Matter of Fact enters its seventh season, Christina’s wealth of broadcast and digital production experience, and her knowledge, insight, creativity and versatility, bring an added dimension to the show as we pursue new and engaging stories with both a local and global outlook as well as timeless appeal.”

Recently, Romano produced Matter of Fact host Soledad O’Brien’s special interview with Vice President Kamala Harris for BET; the interview later aired on Matter of Fact. Other high-profile interviews she has produced have included Monica Lewinsky, Jordan’s Queen Noor, former U.S. Secretary of State General Colin Powell, and former President Bill Clinton’s sit-down with Diane Sawyer following his heart surgery.

After graduating from Boston University, Romano spent two years in Madrid. While there she earned her initial grounding in TV journalism working with an ABC News producer and assisting in coverage of Spain’s national elections as well as the trial of a Spain-based Syrian Arms dealer who was involved in the Achille Lauro terrorist hijacking.

After moving to New York, she took a job as a receptionist at ABC’s 20/20, where she worked her way up to a producer role and eventually as senior producer and head writer for ABC’s GMA Weekend. As a producer for ABC’s Primetime Live she developed, wrote and produced award-winning stories; her extensive coverage of Operation Iraqi Freedom included a network exclusive about the shoot-down of an American Chinook helicopter over Fallujah. Later, as a senior producer for NBC-owned WRC Washington, she produced on-the-ground segments in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, and helped spearhead the station’s health and medical coverage.

Fluent in Spanish as well as English, Romano has served as an expert consultant on news stories and features pertaining to Latin America’s political landscape and has provided collaborative leadership to multiple national and international news projects.

In North Korea she helped arrange a documentary offering an inside look at the country, and served as a senior producer on a PBS documentary on China.

She has participated in the Council on Foreign Relations’ Stephen M. Kellen Term Member Program, in which younger members interact with seasoned foreign policy experts.

In addition to her Peabody, she has earned a Front Page Award, two Gracie Awards and two Emmy nominations.
