Gray Announces Inaugural Media Training Center Participants
Gray Television and WLBT (NBC) in Jackson, Mississippi, today announced the inaugural group of participants in the Gray Media Training Center internship program. The first class includes 10 students who will begin the program in late August in conjunction with their fall school semester. The program will run for 14 weeks.
The program will prepare students for today’s evolving media environment, while simultaneously improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in media. The Center will educate and train students who attend Mississippi colleges and universities, with a focus on Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the state. Students who participate in the Center’s programs will learn today’s best practices for broadcast and digital journalism. They also will receive hands-on training in production, sales, operations, IT, engineering, coding and marketing. Gray has made a commitment to invest more than one million dollars to create the training center.
The inaugural class features: Delesha Banks, Dejona Sims and MeKiyla Brown of Alcorn State University; Joliyah Daughtry, Jasmine Puckett, Kori Ann Walters and Makyla Simmons from Jackson State University; Tiara Jackson and Harmony Porter of Hinds Community College (Utica) and De’Nautis Liddell from Mississippi Valley State University.

As one of the fortunate participants selected for the inaugural Gray Media Training Center internship program, I am thrilled to embark on this journey alongside nine other students from Mississippi colleges and universities. Starting this fall, we will engage in a comprehensive 14-week program at WLBT (NBC) in Jackson, Mississippi, aimed at preparing us for the rapidly evolving media landscape while promoting diversity and inclusion within the industry. With a focus on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including my own institution, we will receive top-notch training in broadcast and digital journalism, as well as hands-on experience in various areas of media operations. Gray Television’s generous investment of over one million dollars demonstrates their commitment to empowering aspiring media professionals like myself.
