KCCI Des Moines To Host Primetime Debate Between Nominees for U.S. Congress

Hearst Television’s CBS affiliate KCCI Des Moines, Iowa, will host a live debate between Rep. Cindy Axne and Republican challenger Zach Nunn.

The KCCI Commitment 2022: Iowa 3rd District Congressional Debate will air Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. KCCI’s Eric Hanson and Stacey Horst will co-moderate.

Axne is a West Des Moines business owner who has represented Iowa’s 3rd District since 2019. Nunn is a combat veteran of the U.S. Air Force and has served as an Iowa State Senator or Representative since 2015.

The candidates will face each other before a live audience at the Iowa State Historical Building in Des Moines. Candidates will be given one minute to answer questions and the opportunity to compare these two candidates and their priorities side-by-side.

“Iowa’s Third District could be one of the most pivotal races in the country,” said KCCI News Director Allison Smith. “This debate will give viewers the opportunity to see how candidates respond to questions in real-time.”

“Decisions made in Washington have a direct impact on all voters in Iowa’s Third District,” added KCCI President-General Manager Brian Sather. “We believe one of our responsibilities as Iowa’s News Leader, is to make debates like this widely available through the power of broadcast television, ensuring voters have the information they need to make an informed choice.”
