KNBC Names Marina Perelman Assistant News Director

NBC-owned KNBC Los Angeles (DMA 2) promoted Marina Perelman to assistant news director. Perelman, who brings nearly 20 years of broadcast television experience to the role, will report directly to Renee Washington, vice president of news. She will begin her new post immediately.

Perelman has held several roles with increasing responsibilities at KNBC. As executive producer for the station’s 11 p.m. newscast since 2013, she led a team of journalists to boost the station’s ratings.

She has also successfully managed KNBC’s exclusive Olympics coverage, guiding the station’s Today in LA morning show in its live broadcast from Rio de Janeiro during the 2016 Summer Olympics. Perelman also directed the news team’s coverage of the 2016 presidential election broadcasting live from Washington. Last year, she helped manage the station’s Investigative Team.

“Marina’s diligence and production expertise in a fast-pace newsroom will further enhance our content creation and delivery to viewers across the region on all platforms,” said Renee Washington, KNBC VP of news.  “Marina is a strong leader and I’m looking forward to leading our team together.”

Promoted to managing editor in 2017, Perelman oversaw daily editorial with an emphasis on breaking news. According to the stations, she was instrumental in delivering up-to-the-minute reports across all KNBC news platforms in the aftermath of the Borderline shooting in Thousand Oaks and the Woolsey fire.

Perelman has been part of the NBC Owned Stations Group since joining NBC Bay Area in 2005.  She also has been recognized with several LA-area Emmys and other awards for her work at KNBC.

Perelman earned her Bachelors of Arts degree in communications from the University of Southern California and was one of the founding members of the school’s daily broadcast Annenberg TV News.  She immigrated to Southern California from Yerevan, Armenia, in 1981 and speaks Russian.
