A face familiar to local TV news-watchers has returned: Ed Greene is back on 9NEWS, coming out of semi-retirement to fill in as KUSA looks for a full-time replacement for Becky Ditchfield.

Ditchefield left the station on Friday after 13 years.

Greene is a longtime newsman in Colorado. He started in the early 1970s with a radio job and was most recently doing weather for CBS4, where he spent most of his career.

This is Greene’s second stint as a forecaster for 9NEWS. He worked the 1996 Summer Olympics for the station and stayed on for a few years. Now, he joins Mile High Mornings with Gary Shapiro, Corey Rose, Natasha Verma, Erica Lopez and others.

“I’ve known Ed since he worked for 9NEWS in the ’90s,” said Tim Ryan, 9NEWS director of content, in a statement. “I’ve always admired his work, and we’re happy to have him join our team again 25 years later.”

Greene has the longest tenure of any on-air broadcast personality in Denver, having worked 42 years before retiring in 2017.

One of Greene’s three children, Ryan, works on the sports team at his old station, KCNC.
