Telemundo’s WNJU New York announced the return of Luis Gerardo Núñez to the station’s award-winning news team. Recognized by National Academy of Arts and Sciences, New York Chapter for four consecutive years (2017 to 2020) as the Tri-State’s top live television reporter, Núñez rejoins Telemundo 47 as a general assignment. His first day is Monday, Sept. 23.
Prior to his return to WNJU, Núñez worked as a news anchor and reporter for KTMD Houston for four years. He previously worked for WNJU from 2016 through 2020. Before that time, Núñez was an anchor and reporter for Telemundo 39 in Dallas, a reporter for Telemundo 51 in Miami, and a reporter for WGEN Key West, Fla.
“Luis is an exceptional journalist and a wonderful person. He was beloved by our community during his time here and I know our viewers will welcome him back with open arms. We are thrilled to welcome Luis back to the Telemundo 47 news team,” said Alexa Rodriguez, WNJU news director.
A native of Venezuela, Núñez began his career as a reporter for Globovision, the Caracas-based 24-hour news network serving Spanish-language viewers in Venezuela, the Caribbean and throughout Latin America.
He earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in social communication sciences from the Universidad Monteávila, in Caracas, Venezuela. He was also awarded a master’s degree in communication sciences, with a mention in multimedia, from Florida International University.
