Meteorologist Brian Shields is leaving WFTV after nearly 15 years at the station.

Shields made the announcement Friday morning and said the move allows him to spend more time with family, according to his Facebook page.

He said the move doesn’t come as a light decision and he hopes to keep that connection with the community, just in different ways.

Shields will take a new position at Bishop Moore Catholic High School. He’s a product of Catholic education and looks forward to “giving back to our community,” according to his Facebook post.

He plans to continue his children’s series, “Pug on the Run.” Shields released the book in October 2020 which follows the adventures of the “cute, happy-go-lucky” Pixie in an ongoing series. His dog inspired the idea.

“She is a very loving dog, and she always cracks up the kids or whoever she’s with,” he said. “She always has these little intricacies, whether it’s being scared by the vacuum or thinking she’s a little bit tougher than she is.”

Shields thanked his friends and the Central Florida community for supporting his move and career at WFTV.

He also had a special message for those feeling lonely over the holidays.

“Know that I am thinking of you and I’ll keep you in my prayers,” he said. “Please reach out to one another…life is too short and too valuable.”
