Michaela Pereira Leaving KTTV’s ‘Good Day LA’

Good Day LA anchor Michaela Pereira has decided to leave Fox O&O KTTV Los Angeles. Her last day will be Sept. 9.

Pereira has been anchoring from 7 to 10 a.m. with Tony McEwing and Araksya Karapetyan since late 2020. She will make an announcement on-air tomorrow morning.

Acting News Director Pete Wilgoren told the staff today: “Some bittersweet news to share for our team today — Michaela Pereira has decided it’s time to leave Good Day LA.
She has been a guiding force for much of our in-depth conversation during the pandemic-seeking answers from the experts and providing comfort to the viewers during uncertain times.
And I know this was a tough decision — but the right decision for Michaela — who tells me she doesn’t know yet what’s next.”

Pereira told the Good Day LA staff today: “I came to the fantastic team at GDLA to help fulfill a mission. It was centered in a time when the world was challenged in a way we couldn’t even begin to estimate nor fully understand. I am nearly 2 decades into my love affair with Los Angeles, this opportunity felt like the best way I could be of service and contribute to the effort to get the place we all call home through such a bizarre time.

And the mission blended with my own personal mission — to help make sense of what we were in the midst of, through human connection and story-telling; stories that would remind us of our strength, resilience and of our common bonds.

Finding connection in a time of isolation proved to be a challenge I felt uniquely suited to take on.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

And we connected! Whether through powerful conversations about race in the charged time following George Floyd’s murder, discussions with mental health professionals about our wellbeing, panels of trusted voices on issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community, or what I believe was the first ever live Zoom interview with a deaf and blind actor — I stand by the timely work we did and remain immensely proud of it. We did not allow this pandemic to keep us from doing good, thoughtful work.

And now there is a calling again to explore. Over the last several months there have been some new opportunities that are calling me again — things that align with my personal mission and purpose. I feel compelled to create and dig into these new adventures. Of course, I will share more with you when I can.

So my time at Fox 11 comes to an end, but know this; it has been a joy and privilege. Thank you for welcoming me and allowing me to be part of this tremendous team.”
