NewsNet Bringing Live Election Coverage To LPTV Stations

There’s a new source for election coverage this year: America’s low-power television stations, many of which have never before broadcast live election coverage.

It’s all thanks to NewsNet, a free, over-the-air 24-hour news channel, which will be bringing live coverage of the 2020 elections to its affiliates — including dozens of LPTV stations across the country — next week.

“NewsNet was built with over-the-air broadcasters in mind,” said Eric Wotila, president of NewsNet, “And a subset of those over-the-air broadcasters — the low-power TV stations found in almost every market across the country — have never had the opportunity to carry live election coverage before. Thanks to NewsNet, they’ll be a viable option for election coverage this coming Tuesday.”

NewsNet’s live election coverage, which will be available on both its low-power and full-power affiliates, will begin at the start of the network’s Evening Edition — which airs from 8 p.m. to midnight ET, and will continue into the overnight hours during Nightside Edition (midnight-4 a.m. ET). Beginning at 8 p,m,, NewsNet will provide live updates on the latest election data at the top of every half hour, with additional live updates throughout each half hour as news breaks about election results.

“When we launched NewsNet, we did so with the goal of offering our viewers a streamlined newscast — without opinion-based programming,” said Evening Edition anchor Remington Hernandez, “Our election coverage will follow that same mission — providing no-nonsense coverage of the results on election night.”

NewsNet, launched in January 2019, follows a traditional “news wheel” format providing a quick look at the headlines every half hour, and has stayed away from the talk and opinion-based programming that’s become common on most 24-hour news channels. The rapidly growing network is available in approximately 50 markets nationwide — including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.
