Noticias Telemundo’s Final Election Day Coverage Sets New Records Across Platforms

Noticias Telemundo’s continuous 13-hour news Election coverage on Saturday, Nov. 7, propelled Telemundo to rank No. 1 in total day and primetime among all broadcast and cable networks in Hispanic viewers regardless of language, according to Nielsen Media Research. The coverage averaged 1.29 million total Hispanic viewers during primetime and 744,000 total viewers for total day.

Telemundo shifted its programming on Saturday morning to live election news coverage led by anchors Jose Díaz-Balart and Felicidad Aveleyra together with Vanessa Hauc and Julio Vaqueiro, featuring regular reports from Telemundo correspondents across the country. The 13-hour coverage included the network’s regularly scheduled Saturday evening newscast and a primetime news special which aired the speeches of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

According to Nielsen, on Saturday Telemundo also ranked as the No. 1 Spanish-language network in total day and primetime with 763,000 total viewers and 1.32 million total viewers, respectively. The network said its highest-rated hour of election coverage was during the 8 p.m. time slot with 1.74 million total viewers, “outperforming election news specials that aired at the same time on Univision and Fox.”

Noticias Telemundo’s Saturday evening newscast “set a new newscast ratings record with its highest-rated Saturday evening telecast in network history,” it said. The newscast also topped Univision’s Noticiero Fin de Semana newscast in total viewers and the adults 18-49 demo, its said, citing Nielsen.

In local markets, Telemundo said it was the No. 1 Spanish-language network in total day and live primetime dayparts in key Hispanic markets including Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Dallas among total viewers and adults 18-49.

The streamed coverage broke new Noticias Telemundo records on digital and social, garnering 13.6 million total views and 884,000 global actions across Telemundo-owned platforms and social accounts. The numbers represented an increase of 89% in total views and 382% in global actions, eclipsing Election Night coverage.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

On YouTube, Noticias Telemundo’s continuous broadcast was the most watched livestream ever among Telemundo channel broadcasts, reaching 4.4 million views and beating the previous record set on election night. The social livestreams of the election coverage and the speeches by President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris generated a total of 3.2 million views across Facebook and Twitter, with 2.1 million streams on Facebook and 1.1 million streams on Twitter.

Noticias Telemundo streamed its special coverage throughout the day and across all platforms, including NoticiasTelemundo.com, Noticias Telemundo’s new mobile app and YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

The special coverage was part of Telemundo’s “Decision 2020” initiative, a yearlong non-partisan multiplatform news and civic engagement effort aimed at providing Latinos with comprehensive news, information and resources on the 2020 election.
