Tegna’s Vault Studios Debuts ‘Amy Should Be Forty’ Podcast

Tegna Inc. today announced the launch of Amy Should Be Forty, a five-episode podcast series by Tegna’s Vault Studios that chronicles the kidnapping and murder of Amy Mihaljevic, a case that continues to draw national attention 30 years later.

On Oct. 27, 1989, in the suburban Cleveland town of Bay Village, 10-year-old Amy Mihaljevic disappeared after receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be a friend of her mother and asking her to meet at a shopping plaza near her home. Her body was found months later, on Feb. 8, 1990, in a field 50 miles away from where she was last seen.

The Vault team partnered with WKYC Studios, Tegna’s NBC affiliate in Cleveland, to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding Amy’s murder and how new evidence and technological advances in DNA testing could help catch a killer who has been at large for three decades.

Investigative reporting for Amy Should Be Forty was led by Emmy Award-winning journalist Drew Horansky, senior reporter for WKYC. A Cleveland native and co-host of the podcast, Horansky conducted in-depth interviews with law enforcement and family and friends of Amy Mihaljevic.

“Amy’s murder still haunts those of us who were living in the Cleveland area at the time,” said Horansky. “Amy Should Be Forty is about trying to make sense of a horrible tragedy and paying homage to a life full of promise that was cut far too short.”

The just-released trailer for Amy Should Be Forty is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Podbean, and Tegna-owned digital sites. All five episodes of Amy Should Be Forty will be released on Oct. 27.

Amy Should Be Forty is the fifth production from Tegna’s Vault Studios this year. Vault’s first podcast, Bomber, reached No. 12 on Apple’s News & Politics charts in March. 88 Days: The Jayme Closs Story hit the Top Five in the True Crime category, while Vault’s just-concluded Bardstown reached No. 1 in True Crime and No. 2 overall in Apple Podcasts.
