Tracy Davis Named WVIT News VP

NBC promotes her from assistant ND at WMAQ Chicago to lead newsgathering at its Hartford O&O.

NBC O&O WVIT Hartford, Conn., today appointed Tracy Davis vice president of news, effective June 1. She will also be a liaison with Telemundo New England and work with leadership on Connecticut coverage for Noticiero Nueva Inglaterra.

She understands the power that local news can have on people’s lives and in our communities. She is the perfect person for this role and I’m excited to welcome Tracy to our station family,” said Hannes.

Davis, a newsroom leader with more than 17 years of experience, joins WVIT from NBC’s WMAQ Chicago where she was assistant news director for the past four years leading key strategic initiatives including overseeing the station’s investigative and consumer units and helping the units improve their production in storytelling. At WMAQ Davis also played a key role in the development of the station’s content strategy for streaming platforms, among others.

Before joining NBCUniversal in 2017, Davis worked for several TV stations in news roles with increasing responsibility. Most recently she was news director WDJT Milwaukee and held that same role for two years in WVNY Burlington, Vt. She launched her career at WLFI West Lafayette, Ind.

An award-winning journalist, Davis has been honored with several awards including a Chicago/Midwest Emmy Award for WMAQ’s “Chicago Unrest” breaking news coverage, a Peter Lisagor Award for Best Public Affairs Programming for WMAQ’s “Cannabis in Illinois” and the Young Alumni Award from Franklin College.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism from Franklin College.
