Tyra Whitney Named WLS Weekend Morning News Producer

ABC O&O WLS Chicago has appointed Tyra Whitney weekend morning news producer. Her first day is Monday, June 7.

Prior to joining WLS, Whitney was supervising producer at NewsNation in Chicago for a year. In that role, she’s produced one hour of the three-hour nightly primetime newscasts.

Before joining NewsNation, Whitney worked at WRIC Richmond, Va., where she was a newscast producer, investigative producer and specials producer. During her tenure at WRIC, Whitney and the team won seven Associated Press Awards in 2019 including one for continuing coverage of the capitol crisis and the scandal surrounding Governor Ralph Northam.

Whitney also worked at WAVY Portsmouth, Va., in production roles and served as an adjunct professor at Virginia Union University in Richmond.

Whitney is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
