Univision Launches A.M. News In 4 Markets

Premieres in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Austin are the latest in a series of local-focused moves, including TV news investments from New York to California, expansion of digital, radio and live events businesses and more.

Univision Communications today announced the launch of three new morning newscasts — in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Austin, Texas.

Primera Edición DFW in Dallas, Noticias 45 Primera Hora in Houston and Primera Hora Texas Central in both San Antonio and Austin, will air from 5 to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday. All three Texas programs mark the first time that local Spanish-language morning newscasts will be airing in those markets, Univision says.

The premiere of the new programming comes on the heels of morning newscast launches in Los Angeles, Sacramento, Calif., and most recently in Chicago, in addition to the company’s recent launch of local news apps in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago and the Bay Area.

Univision San Antonio and Univision Austin this week also unveiled new local apps available for download on the iOS App Store and on Google Play, providing audiences with breaking news in the palm of their hand.

In addition to news, traffic and weather, the morning broadcasts will feature special segments focused on topics such as immigration, health, personal finance, education, fitness, nutrition and entertainment, among others.

“We are more focused than ever on expanding our local news offerings to deliver our audience the news and information they need, when they need it most and across multiple platforms,” said Chris Peña, Univision’s SVP of local news. “Supporting the needs of the Hispanic community in markets across the nation has been the hallmark of Univision since the company was formed over five decades ago, and we look forward to continuing that legacy with the new morning newscasts in Texas.”

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Primera Edicion DFW on KUVN Dallas is anchored by Johana Suarez and Miguelangel Piñero with Iriana Perez presenting weather, Cynthia Cano serving as a multi-media journalist and Angelina Armendáriz reporting on breaking news.

Univision says the new newscasts are part of an overall strategy “to further leverage the strength of Univision’s local television and radio stations operating across America ….”
