On Monday, Aug. 12, at 9 p.m. CT, Hearst’s ABC affiliate WAPT Jackson, Miss., will air a special magazine-style program as part of the Chronicle series titled “Mississippi: Perception vs. Reality.”
The one-hour program will be hosted by WAPT anchor Troy Johnson and will take an in-depth look at Mississippi’s national reputation, comparing it to the reality of life in the Magnolia State.
“Mississippi: Perception vs. Reality” will explore a wide range of topics, showcasing the state’s rich history, vibrant culinary scene, deep religious roots, significant musical contributions, and overall way of life. The program aims to challenge misconceptions and provide a more accurate portrayal of what Mississippi has to offer.
News Director Lee Neely emphasized the importance of this program: “Mississippi is often misunderstood or misrepresented on the national stage. We want to highlight the true essence of our state — its culture, its people and its contributions. This program is a celebration of the real Mississippi, beyond the stereotypes.”
