WBFF Adds Mike Fahey As News Director

The veteran journalist joins Sinclair’s Baltimore Fox affiliate from WHDH Boston.

Sinclair-owned Fox affiliate WBFF Baltimor has hired Mike Fahey as news director, effective Dec. 9, to oversee all newscasts, digital services and special news programming. He replaces interim news director Mike McCormick who assumed the responsibility after long-time former news director Mike Tomko left WBFF in January. McCormick is the station’s group news director.

Fahey has spent the last six years at WHDH Boston, transforming what once was one of the strongest NBC stations in America into the top independent station in the country. For the last three years, Fahey has worked as the dayside executive producer at WHDH, where he was responsible for the station’s three-hour block of early evening news.

In 2016, Fahey was tasked with launching WHDH’s morning show, when the station went independent. His work has been recognized with three New England Emmy Awards including Outstanding Newscast in 2015, and Spot News in 2019 and 2020. Fahey also was a part of the teams that were recognized with Edward R. Murrow Regional awards for Continuing Coverage in 2015 (Baby Doe Investigation), Breaking News Coverage in 2013 (Boston Marathon Bombing) and Overall Excellence in 2012 (WJAR-TV).

Fahey attended Washington and Lee University where he majored in journalism and mass communications and sociology/anthropology.

Fahey said: “This is the opportunity of a lifetime, to lead a station with such a tremendous legacy. I have been very impressed with the station, its reporters, and depth of its impactful journalism.”

McCormick said: “Baltimore is a city in crisis and needs an aggressive local news operation giving a voice to the voiceless. Throughout his career, Mike has led investigative journalists to create original, impactful, distinctive reporting that produces visible change in the community. His commitment to covering the community on television, digital and social channels make him the perfect choice to continue growing the Fox45 news team.”
