CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Welcome Courtney Gousman to Cleveland. WEWS Channel 5 has hired the Chicago-native as the new anchor for its 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts.
Gousman is coming over from her hometown, where she is an anchor and reporter on WGN’s morning show. Prior to that, she worked as the main evening anchor on KSDK in St. Louis.
“Getting a dream job like this in the midst of a pandemic confirms God’s grace,” she wrote on Instagram. “I am so grateful for this opportunity.”
“Courtney will be an outstanding addition to our team,” said Steve Weinstein, VP and General Manager at News 5 in a statement. “It’s a bonus that she’s returning to our Scripps family, and thanks to her Midwest sensibilities she’ll connect with Northeast Ohioans right away.”
WEWS is Gousman’s third Scripps station. She previously interned at WXYZ in Detroit and worked as a reporter and producer at WMAR in Baltimore, where she extensively covered the D.C. sniper trial. She’s also had stops in Evansville, Indiana and Jefferson City, Missouri.
Gousman’s first day will be September 8. She replaces Danita Harris, who moved over to “Good Morning Cleveland” in February. She’ll join Frank Wiley and meteorologist Mark Johnson on the 5 p.m. newscast. Rob Powers will be her co-anchor at 6 and 11 p.m.
