WFSB’s Mark Dixon Promoted To Chief Meteorologist

Gray Television’s CBS affiliate WFSB Hartford, Conn., today named long-time meteorologist Mark Dixon its chief meteorologist. This summer Dixon starts his 20th year at WFSB.

Dixon is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. From growing up and working in Oklahoma and then working in Arkansas, his experience in Tornado Alley has provided him with extensive experience in all types of extreme weather. Dixon honed his forecasting skills working alongside the recently retired, Bruce DePrest, a forecaster of New England weather for more than 40 years.

“I’m so excited to officially take on the roll,” said Dixon. “There are certainly big shoes to fill in Bruce’s absence, as he enjoys retirement. Glad to have worked with, and learned from, one of the best.”

“Mark has made a name for himself with accurate and dependable forecasts that have helped Connecticut families stay safe and informed for almost two decades,” said WFSB Executive News Director Keith Connors. “From Nor’easters to hurricanes, he knows New England weather and he knows what New Englanders need from their weathercasts. He’s the perfect chief to lead our talented team of meteorologists, forecasting Connecticut’s ever-changing weather.”

In addition to leading the Early Warning Weather Team, Dixon will continue to join Eyewitness News anchors Erin Connolly and Mark Zinni on weeknights at 5, 6 and 11 p.m.
