WJLA Adds Sports Anchor Olivia Garvey

Sinclair ABC Affiliate WJLA Washington (DMA 7) has hired Olivia Garvey as sports anchor.

Garvey is making the move across the country from working at her hometown NBC station KMIR Palm Springs, Calif., in June.

Garvey will anchor and cover sports news of the day and the Washington region’s pro, college and high school sports teams. She will also share hosting duties of ABC7 Sports Sunday at 11:30 p.m. as well as SportsTalk on the station’s sister cable channel WJLA 24/7 News weeknights at 9.  In addition, she will report for WJLA’s special sports segments, ‘ABC7 Rising Star’ and “ABC7 Athlete of The Week.”

Prior to serving as sports director and sports anchor in Palm Springs, Garvey worked for the NFL Network, the Los Angeles Dodgers, SportsNet LA and Spectrum Sports. She studied sports management at Arizona State University and while attending college, she interned for the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers during spring training.
