In his touching but wonderfully wacky farewell, retiring meteorologist Danny Treanor thanked WKMG-Channel 6 and his colleagues there.

“What a pleasure it has been to work here at Channel 6,” Treanor said as the 11 p.m. Sunday news concluded.

He praised the people and “atmosphere of kindness and heart” at the CBS affiliate.

Anchor Erik von Ancken tried to keep the focus on Treanor and noted that the meteorologist had started in Orlando in 1978.

Treanor, 74, agreed that he was lucky to begin in the golden age of television, but added that the medium has “changed so much, and people get their news different ways.”

He worked at WFTV-Channel 9 for 18 years, at News 13 for a decade and at WKMG for five years. WKMG posted the goodbye at clickorlando.com.

He thanked WKMG news director Allison McGinley and General Manager Jeff Hoffman but saved the biggest shout-outs for chief meteorologist Tom Sorrells (“the best ever”) and anchor Julie Broughton (“my forever friend”).

There were typically humorous Treanor touches. He started the segment by joking, “At last.”

When von Ancken called him an “old friend” to viewers, Treanor turned and asked, “Where’s my walker?”

He concluded by telling viewers, “Turn off the TV. Go away.”

He was, and remains, an original.
