WPVI Philadelphia News Adds Two Journalists

ABC-owned WPVI Philadelphia has made a promotion and a new hire for its Action News team.

TaRhonda Thomas was named race and culture reporter, a newly created position. Thomas joined 6abc in 2019 as a part-time general assignment reporter, after previously working in Denver. Before that she was an anchor and reporter in Richmond, Va. She also reported and anchored in Colorado Springs after beginning her television career in Morgan City, La.

Thomas is an alumnus of Louisiana State University and earned her master’s degree in media, film and journalism studies from the University of Denver. The Louisiana native has earned national and regional recognition including awards from the Associated Press, Edward R. Murrow Awards, Heartland Emmys and the National Association of Black Journalists.

In addition, Brittany Boyer will join the Action News AccuWeather team in April. She joins from AccuWeather in State College, Pa. Boyer earned a Bachelor of Science in meteorology from Mississippi State University as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Penn State University in broadcast journalism.

After college, Boyer spent time working in several Pennsylvania markets, including Johnstown, Scranton and, most recently, State College.
