WSLS Names Ashburn News Director

Graham Media Group’s NBC affiliate WSLS Roanoke, Va., promoted Margaret Kreger Ashburn to news director, overseeing the editorial content and its execution on all platforms, as well as helping maintain the station’s brand image.

She begins her new role on Feb. 15.

Ashburn has been assistant news director for the last two years, helping WSLS win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Newscast in 2020 and earning a spot on a local ‘40 Under 40’ list.

WSLS Vice President and General Manager Jaimie León said: “Margaret is exactly the right person to lead WSLS 10 News. She is passionate and innovative. Her proven leadership and fresh perspective, paired with our exceptional journalists at WSLS 10, will allow us to serve our communities in new and exciting ways.

Ashburn graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in journalism from the University of Georgia. Before coming back home, Ashburn worked for WAGA Atlanta; WGHP Greensboro-High Point-Winston-Salem, N.C.; and WRDW Augusta, Ga.
