The former news chief at WAVE Louisville, Ky., is tapped to oversee journalism at the Gray NBC affiliate in Tennessee.

Gray-owned affiliate WSMV Nashville (DMA 29) today named Dan Fabrizio as the news director of the NBC affiliate.

“We will be producing more news and more local content for the viewers of Middle Tennessee and Dan brings the exact experience and leadership we need as we start a new chapter at WSMV,” said General Manager Jasmine Hardin. “We are committed to telling the stories of our community and being the trusted source for news and information.”

Fabrizio comes to Nashville from Louisville where he was news director at WAVE. While in Louisville, his team became the ratings leader in early evening news, winning numerous awards for their breaking news and investigative coverage.

Fabrizio brings more than three decades of news experience to WSMV, starting as a reporter in Miami followed by stops in Columbus, Ohio; Providence, R.I.; Charleston, S.C.; and Charleston-Huntington, W.Va. He has spent his last 10 years with Gray Television, which recently purchased WSMV.

Fabrizio graduated with a degree in journalism from Ohio State University.
