DMA 24: PITTSBURGH

WTAE Expands Its Noon News To A Full Hour

Its Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 at Noon gets an extra 30 minutes beginning Jan. 13. The newscast will be anchored by Kelly Sasso and meteorologist Ashley Dougherty.

Hearst ABC affiliate WTAE Pittsburgh (DMA 24) is lengthening its Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 at Noon to an hour, beginning Jan. 13.

The station said the move, in part, reflects the “substantial growth in the newscast’s viewership. For fourth-quarter 2019 versus fourth-quarter 2018, Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 at Noon saw a 63% increase in adults 25-54 (Nielsen Live + Same Day).”

“We know local news and weather are very important to our viewers,” said WTAE President-GM Charles W. Wolfertz III. “The additional 30 minutes of news per day allows us to provide more in-depth coverage of stories that matter to Pittsburghers. We’ll feature more neighborhood news, detailed 12-hour forecasts, and ‘Commitment 2020’ stories addressing the decisions made this year in City Hall, the State House and Washington that will impact viewers here at home.”

The newscast will be anchored by Kelly Sasso and meteorologist Ashley Dougherty.

“Based on the momentum we’ve experienced, we believe our audience is looking for more local news from a trusted source,” said WTAE News Director Jim Parsons. “Kelly and Ashley have developed a strong connection to our communities. Viewers know and trust them to deliver accurate information.”
