WVTM Birmingham Adds Anchor Rick Karle

Hearst-owned NBC affiliate WVTM Birmingham, Ala. (DMA 44), has named Rick Karle a news co-anchor.

He will appear on WVTM 13 News Mornings, airing weekdays starting at 4 a.m. Karle joins anchor Eunice Elliott, meteorologists Stephanie Walker and Harmony Mendoza to round out the morning team.

For 30 years Karle was sports director at WBRC Birmingham. He has covered major sports stories including the six Alabama National Championships and Auburn National Championship. Karle also covered the 2011 Central Alabama tornado outbreak, reporting on damage, recovery and rebuilding efforts.

Prior to WBRC, Karle was a sports anchor at WJXT Jacksonville, Fla., and sports director of WNNE Hanover, N.H.

He has been recognized with six Edward R. Murrow Regional Awards and one Edward R. Murrow National Award.

Karle’s first day on WVTM 13 News Mornings will be Dec. 23.
