WVTM Birmingham Names Ryan Hennessy Sports Director

Hearst Television’s NBC affiliate WVTM Birmingham, Ala., has promoted Ryan Hennessy to sports director. He will anchor the sportscast every weeknight at 10 p.m. beginning May 1, joining evening anchors Sheri Falk and Guy Rawlings in addition to chief meteorologist Jason Simpson.

“Ryan has been diligently covering sports in Alabama for the past five years and will leverage that experience to lead our sports team in this new role,” said WVTM News Director Baylor Long. “We’re excited for this next chapter in sports coverage at WVTM 13 and the great stories our team will be able to share with viewers of all levels of sports across Central Alabama.”

Hennessy joined WVTM in 2020 as a sports reporter and anchor. He has covered multiple appearances by the University of Alabama’s football team in the College Football Playoffs, Auburn University’s recent run in the College World Series, Bryce Young’s Heisman ceremony from New York City, NCAA Tournament appearances, high school football and the launch of the USFL in Birmingham in 2022.

Prior to WVTM, Hennessy was a sports anchor and reporter at WTVY Dothan, Ala.

He is a University of North Florida graduate.
