Chernéy Amhara Joins WTVJ Miami As Weekend Morning Anchor

NBC-owned WTVJ Miami has hired Chernéy Amhara as weekend morning anchor, alongside Heather Walker, and as a weekday reporter. Amhara’s on-air anchoring debut will be on Feb. 5.

“We are happy to welcome Chernéy to our NBC 6 news team,” said Dawn Clapperton, WTVJ vice president of news. “She is passionate about enterprising stories and breaking news, and along with Heather, will bring that passion to weekend mornings.”

Amhara joins WTVJ from WISN Milwaukee where she spent three years as weekend morning anchor and weekday reporter. Prior to that, she worked at KVVU Las Vegas where she earned a local Emmy for her special report on Las Vegas gangs, and as a multimedia journalist at WCAV Charlottesville, Va.

Amhara is a graduate of California State University, Northridge where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism.
