Mayra Aguilar Joins KASA Albuquerque As News Anchor

Telemundo’s KASA Albuquerque, N.M., has named Mayra Aguilar has been named news anchor for its Noticias Telemundo Nuevo México newscast. Aguilar joins anchor Alejandro Contreras and reporters Sergio Guerrero and Jaime Prieto. Her debut on-air will be Oct. 28.

“We are thrilled to have Mayra join our news team,” said Tony Canales, KASA President-GM. “We are confident that her journalistic experience combined with her passion for the issues that affect the New Mexico community will be a great asset for our station.”

Aguilar joins KASA after working for Univision’s KLUZ Albuquerque since 2017 as a local reporter. In 2020, she was recognized by the New Mexico Press Association with the Excellence award for her reports about the Latino community and the pandemic in New Mexico.

Aguilar earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, mass communication and business Administration from the University of New Mexico. She is an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
