WRMD Tampa Launching Spanish-Language Consumer Unit On Jan. 31

Spanish-language consumers in the Tampa Bay Area can now turn to Telemundo’s WRMD to investigate their consumer complaints. The station’s new consumer investigative unit, Telemundo 49 Responde, is tasked with investigating consumers’ claims.

Journalist Brenda Brito will lead the unit as consumer investigative reporter and her first story will debut on the station’s 6 p.m. local news on Jan. 31, the same day the unit opens its phone lines to receive inquiries. Consumers can also reach the unit by completing an online complaints form at telemundo49.com/responde/quejas.

New consumer stories or reports will air every Monday during WRMD’s local newscasts. Audiences can also visit Telemundo49.com to watch Telemundo 49 Responde stories and access them directly from the station’s mobile app, Telemundo 49.

“Consumers who feel they have been wronged can now turn to Telemundo 49 Responde to get their questions answered,” Brito says. “As Tampa Bay’s first-ever Spanish-language consumer unit, our team is dedicated to addressing consumers’ concerns and to presenting important news stories that will help consumers in their everyday lives.”

Telemundo 49 Responde’s first report focuses on explaining to the local audiences how the consumer unit works. In addition, Brito will explain the problems and complaints that Telemundo 49 Responde looks forward to helping with and the different communication channels that the audience can use to reach out to the consumer unit.

Brito joined WRMD in September 2019 and since then she has informed the Latino community of Tampa Bay area about different issues relevant to the local community. Before that, she worked as multimedia journalist at Telemundo Phoenix for three years and reported on immigration and border politics.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Earlier, Brito worked as a video journalist for five months for the Telemundo Station Group’s Miami bureau and produced and reported stories that aired on Telemundo stations across the country. She launched her journalism career as an assistant digital content producer for different platforms at the Univision Network in Miami.

The NBC- and Telemundo-owned stations introduced their local consumer units beginning 2014 and since then, the “NBC Responds” and “Telemundo Responde” units have returned more than $52 million dollars to consumers. Today, the NBC/Telemundo stations’ consumer units are available to English and Spanish-speaking consumers in 30 markets in the U.S and Puerto Rico.
