WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Big Leaps For Magazine Shows

All of the top six in the genre posted ratings gains of 9% or greater in the week ending Dec. 6 with Entertainment Tonight and Inside Edition at the top of the heap.

Entertainment magazines were themselves the big news in the session ending Dec. 6, scoring double-digit increases right across the board. Entertainment Tonight led the charge with a 14% surge to a 2.4 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, tying corporate cousin Inside Edition at the top of the magazine rack.

Next in line, Access Hollywood, matched its season high, jumping 10% to a 1.1. TMZ added 14% to a 0.8, while Extra clocked the largest percentage increase in the top four, with a 17% spike to a 0.7 in households and a 33% leap in the key women 25-54 demo, equaling its best performance of the season.

Elsewhere, Live with Kelly and Ryan rose 5% to a 2.0, matching its strongest numbers of the year and leading the talkers. Live has now been first or tied for first in nine of the past 13 weeks.

Also moving up was Dr. Phil, which strengthened 6% to a second-place 1.9.

Ellen DeGeneres, who announced that she had tested positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 10 and that her show would pause production until after the holidays, had the only gabfest in the top 5 going south, easing 8% to a 1.2.

On the other hand, highly regarded sophomore Kelly Clarkson climbed 11% to a 1.0 in households and 25% in the advertiser-coveted women 25-54 age group to tie both its season high and veteran Maury.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Meanwhile, the burgeoning Tamron Hall was very heavily preempted but still made the category’s biggest upward move, forging ahead 14% to a 0.8 in households and 33% in the target demo.

Ruling the ratings chart, the Judge Judy juggernaut continued to roll with a 5.8, leading all of syndication in households for the 12th time in 16 weeks.
