Burton To Head ABC Daytime, Syndie Development

In his new role, William Burton, former GM of ABC-owned KGO San Francisco, is responsible for the creation and production of all syndicated programming across ABC platforms. His duties include overseeing the development of a new daytime talk show with Tamron Hall for 2019.

William Burton, general manager of ABC-owned KGO San Francisco, has been named SVP, daytime, sports and syndicated development/production, ABC Entertainment, reporting to division President Channing Dungey, effectively immediately.

In his new role, Burton is responsible for the creation and production of all syndicated programming across ABC platforms. His duties include overseeing the development of a new daytime talk show with Tamron Hall for 2019.

In addition, Burton will work on maximizing all sports content in concert with other Disney departments and divisions, including ESPN, Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer & International segment’s Global Content Sales and Distribution and Disney Ad Sales.

Burton will also head business operations for ABC Daytime, including General Hospital, now in its 55th season.

“Bill has a great track record within the ABC family. I’m excited to see him create new opportunities across divisions to further leverage our syndicated and sports content to deepen our engagement with viewers,” said Dungey.

Prior to becoming GM at KGO in 2011, Burton served for five years as EVP, digital media, for the entire ABC station group.

Earlier in his career, he was VP, programming, advertising and promotion and director of creative services at KABC Los Angeles and director of creative services at WPVI Philadelphia.
