‘Clarkson,’ ‘Hall’ Climb In Thanksgiving Week
Thanksgiving chewed up most of the syndicated ratings in the holiday session ending Nov. 28, however, Kelly Clarkson and Tamron Hall were two bright spots, bucking the downtrend.
Family Feud was the No. 1 game show even though it slipped 8% to a new season low 4.9 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating. That was just enough to edge daytime juggernaut Judge Judy’s steady 4.8 for the week’s overall ratings crown.
Jeopardy went into a 23% tailspin, sinking to a new season low 4.4 with guest host Ken Jennings at the podium for a third straight week, tying Wheel of Fortune, which faltered 15% to a new season low 4.4.
On the positive side, Clarkson and Hall were major growth stories with the highly regarded Clarkson climbing 13% to a 0.9 in households and hammering out a 33% gain in the key women 25-54 demo.
Also bringing its A game, the recently multi-year renewed Hall surged 17% to a 0.7. In addition, both shows matched their highest ratings of the season despite the traditionally low holiday period, and the two were the only talkers in the top 8 to retain 100% of their household ratings from the same week in 2020.
Live with Kelly and Ryan scored a 1.6 and led the talk shows notwithstanding a relatively minor 6% dip. The morning favorite has now been first or tied for first 23 times in the past 29 weeks.
The top talk shows for the week among women 25-54 were:
- Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.6, -14% from the week before), tied with Dr. Phil (0.6, unchanged)
- Kelly Clarkson (0.4, +33%), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.4, unchanged)
In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA means not applicable.
