Debmar-Mercury Launching ‘Schitt’s Creek’ In Syndication

The comedy and winner of nine Emmys this week will debut in national syndication on Sept. 28.

Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury today announced nine-time Emmy Award-winning comedy Schitt’s Creek will launch in syndication across U.S. broadcast markets on Sept. 28.

The half-hour, scripted series made history at the 2020 Emmy Awards, winning all seven of the major comedy categories. Schitt’s Creek is also the first comedy to win all four comedy-acting categories in a single year, with the series’ nine total Emmy wins also setting a record as the most awarded comedy series in a single year.

The cast includes Emmy Award winners Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Daniel Levy, Annie Murphy and Chris Elliott. Rounding out the cast are Emily Hampshire, Jennifer Robertson, Noah Reid, Sarah Levy, Karen Robinson, Dustin Milligan, John Hemphill, Rizwan Manji and Tim Rozon.

Schitt’s Creek centers on an outrageously wealthy video store magnate, Johnny Rose (Eugene Levy); his former soap-star wife Moira (Catherine O’Hara); and their two adult children — the self-described black sheep of the family David (Daniel Levy) and career socialite Alexis (Annie Murphy). When the family suddenly find themselves broke, they have no choice but to move to Schitt’s Creek, a small-town Johnny once bought as a joke. Forced to live out of a motel, with their pampered lives a memory, they struggle to find jobs and relationships and, most importantly, figure out what it means to be a family in the loveable town they’ve reluctantly come to call home.

Debmar-Mercury Co-Presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus, said: “What begins as a fish-out-of-water story quickly develops into a nuanced love letter to family, delivered with warmth, humanity and perfect comedic timing. With a gifted cast and whip-smart writing, it’s easy to see why Schitt’s Creek appeals to Emmy voters, critics and viewers, and has built a loyal and passionate fan base. We are excited to bring the Emmy Award-winning series to broadcast television stations and introduce the iconic Rose family to a new audience.”

Schitt’s Creek has garnered dozens of awards, including nine Emmys this week: Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Eugene Levy, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Catherine O’Hara, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Daniel Levy, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Annie Murphy, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Contemporary Costumes.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

In addition, Schitt’s Creek has been one of the more critically acclaimed comedies on television. Vanity Fair has proclaimed it “simply the best,” while Variety said it has “become part of the zeitgeist.” The series has been heralded by Vogue as “a breath of fresh air” and “a delight” by The Atlantic, while the New York Times said it’s gone “from humble origins to the pinnacle of TV acclaim.”

Commissioned by CBC, Schitt’s Creek is produced by Not A Real Company Productions Inc. and created by Eugene Levy and Daniel Levy. The executive producers are Eugene Levy, Daniel Levy, Andrew Barnsley, Fred Levy, David West Read, and Ben Feigin. Schitt’s Creek is produced in association with CBC and Pop TV and distributed internationally by ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
