WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Family Feud’ Fights Its Way To The Top

In the week ending April 12, it took over sole possession of first place among game shows for the first time in 16 weeks with a 6% leap from the prior frame to a news season high 7.4 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, its best performance since January of 2018.

Stay-at-home viewers turned to game shows in the sessions ending April 12 and there was no arguing that Family Feud was the big winner.

Feud took over sole possession of first place in the category for the first time in 16 weeks with a 6% leap from the prior frame to a news season high 7.4 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen rating, its best performance since January of 2018. The show was also up the most from last year in the genre, 23%.

Jeopardy came in second with a 7,1, dipping 1%. Wheel of Fortune accelerated 17% to a 6.8, finishing a fast-closing third.

In daytime, throughout the week many strips were blitzed by preemptions for news coverage of the pandemic. Live with Kelly and Ryan took highest honors in talk for the third week in a row despite giving back 1% to a 2.3.

Usual leader Dr. Phil, which like Live was partially in reruns, was the only other talker above a 2.0 rating, holding steady at a 2.1.

Turning to the newcomers, Kelly Clarkson, which began adding fresh content created at her ranch in Montana, belted out a top-rated 1.3 and drew a massive daily audience of approximately 1.78 million viewers despite being battered by preemptions. That put the original American idol among syndication’s four highest rated talk shows — behind only veterans Live, Phil and Ellen.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

The apparently unbeatable Judge Judy was the No. 1 show in daytime by an overwhelming margin with a 6.3, even though it was ravaged by repeats on four of the five days.

Elsewhere, the scripted Chicago P.D. blew by the off-net crime shows with a 33% surge to a new season high 1.2, capturing the top spot in the group for the first time.

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.1, -8% from the week before)
  • Dr. Phil (0.8, unchanged), tied with Ellen DeGeneres (0.8, unchanged)
  • Maury (0.7, unchanged)
  • Kelly Clarkson (0.6, unchanged), tied with Steve Wilkos (0.6, unchanged)

In the household rating rankings that follow, % change is from the previous week; * indicates a new season-high rating; ** indicates a new season low; NC indicates no change from the previous week; NA means not applicable.
